The Ryan Richards Foundation

about RYAN

The Ryan Richards Foundation was created to honor Ryan Richards, who died at age 40 from NUT Midline Carcinoma in October, 2015. As Ryan put it, “I ran every road race as fast as I could, because if I paced myself, I wouldn’t be able to make up the time later in the race." With no surprise, he lived his life the same way. In an effort to harness his positive energy and to keep his memory alive, we created The Foundation.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

What we learned with Ryan’s situation is that until you go through something in life, it’s hard to understand it. Unfortunately, we now understand how difficult it is to see someone you love suffering with a life-threatening illness, both physically and emotionally. We experienced the desperate need for medical advancements and the lack of mental health resources. The Foundation’s goal is to make a difference. The Ryan Richards Foundation Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization formed by Ryan’s closest family and friends in an effort to give back to the community he loved.

Helping Families

First and foremost, we want to help families suffering with cancer. Our donations represent a small tap on the shoulder to let them know that we understand what they’re going through and that they are not alone. To date, we have helped numerous families affected by cancer.

Supporting Research

On a larger scale, the Ryan Richards Foundation is helping fund medical advancements with a total donation of over $100,000 to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, specifically for NUT Midline Carcinoma clinical trials and Pediatric Brain Cancer research. These funds help finance targeted therapy methods for these cancers, and most recently funded the first ever global conference on NUT Carcinoma and treatment options. If you would like to help us with this cause, please email:  ryanrichardsfoundation@gmail.com

Supporting the Future

The foundation has endowed 2 scholarships annually in Ryan’s memory to local Falmouth High School seniors attending a 4 year college. Ryan himself received a scholarship to Tufts University and we feel this is a great way honor his work ethic. To apply for a scholarship, please visit the guidance office at Falmouth High School.

Upcoming Events

The fundraising efforts for The Foundation represent Ryan and all that he loved. He was a great husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and best friend to many.

Our annual events include a summer raffle and live band at the Falmouth Yacht Club, a fall bike ride through Falmouth, and the "Run for Ryan” at the Falmouth Road Race.   These bring together his passions for sailing, running and dancing (doing the Rhino), and his love for the Falmouth area.
